When it comes to the internet I'm not much of a surfer (if it's even called that anymore), but when i do it always seems to lead me to some beautiful idea or image or music, I saw this on a myspace profile today. (www.myspace.com/therealladytosh)
"Live without pretending, Love without depending,
Listen without defending, Speak without offending,
Give without ending, Build without rending."
I found Rumi in a similar way, but the best
poem I read on the back of a friends toilet door, while doing a poo.
THE GUEST HOUSE - Jalaluddin Rumi (Translation by Coleman Barks)
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be cleaning you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
Because each has been sent
As a guide from beyond.
Having just read Yes Man (by Danny Wallace) I have decided to say YES more. Il let you know how it goes....
(btw i am not the usual kind of surfer either)
